Final few days in Georgetown, Penang..

Mon 8th Sept '14

Early on monday morning Rebecca leaves, heading to KL before flying to China and starting her studying. After saying goodbye I fall back asleep and awake feeling much better than the previous morning. .although still not fully recovered. Me, Rob, Jenna, Bianca, Steph and Sarah (Bianca's German friends she first met in KL) head out for a long walk around Georgetown to see the large variety of street art.

(Thanks Jenna for the majority of these pictures! My newer SD wasn't formatted for my camera so mine hadn't saved!)

Bianca leaves us towards the end of this walk to catch her ferry to Langkawi. The rest of us eat together, locate the final large street art and then split. Steph and Sarah head to the national park whilst me, Rob and Jenna go to the museum and a few more historic sites in town.

Tonight Rob and Jenna will be taking the night bus to the Perhentian Islands ( a journey I will also be doing later in the week after visiting Langkawi). We play a final game of Chinese checkers before searching for Malay food for dinner. Most of the food restaurants and street stores linked with the Malay and Chinese communities are closed however, due to a day of celebration. We end up eating Indian and my meal is more spicy than I had hoped for! (And this is after asking for less spice!)

A final goodbye back at the hostel, as Rob and Jenna pick up their backpacks and I am left alone as the only remaining traveller from this weekend's great group of friends.

Tues 9th Sept '14

Today I awake early to speak with Rayson and Cheryl in order to help plan and research scuba diving on the Perhentian Islands. After making more progress and sending some email inquiries I book up jy next few nights stay on Langkawi and return tickets for the ferry.

This morning it has been raining constantly so next I locate a nearby hostel where I can rent the use of a computer for a couple of hours to upload my photos from SD card on google drive (I end up needing 3!).

Later in the afternoon I walk to the ferry terminal where you take 30 min ferry to Butterworth on the mainland. When I get to Butterworth I book my overnight bus ticket to the Perhentian Island's and then return back to Georgetown on the ferry. It is free to take the ferry on route off the island and 1.20RM from mainland.

On my return to the hostel I speak again with an Austrian guy called David who moved into my dorm with his brother, Andy, yesterday afternoon. I then go for dinner with them plus Martina and Jessy, two german girls, and Boone, an American girl who has just spent two years teaching english in Hong Kong.

Me, David, Jessy, Boone, Andy and Martina
