Mon 1st - Tues 2nd Sept '14
After a frantic final weekend moving out of both my house in London and my home in Nazeing, plus the need to pack for the travel that awaited me I was set to go. Despite the packing taking place last minute, the main job was moving the spread out gear on my lounge floor into my backpack and rucksack.. I suspect I have packed too much and too heavy but a year is a long time on the road. The positive from this tiring weekend is a quick fall to sleep and no lingering which often keeps me up the night before an important morning.
I am woken at 4.10am from the sound of my mum opening the door to the room at my Nans I am sleeping in. We set off after a coffee is drank, this kicks in on the short journey, due to a lack of traffic and no more road works on the M25, to Heathrow.
Nerves mixed with excitement greet me as I make my way through security ... there's no going back now..
The first of many flights to come.. |
A few last farewell messages pop up on my phone bringing both a smile and bringing firmly into mind the reality of my year away!
Flight No.1 Heathrow - Doha (Departs 8am /Arrive 4.30pm (+2hrs) )
The flight is not full and I find myself sat next to an empty seat.. space for my bag.
Arriving in Doha |
Doha airport is very modern and shiny.. everything is marble. I eat a beef curry and await my second flight, this will be a night flight with another 5 hrs added in time difference.
Doha Airport |
Flight No.2 Doha - Kuala Lumpur (Departs 8pm + 5hrs/Arrives 8am)
This flight is delayed but after boarding the plane I find a film to start listening to on the personalised entertainment whilst falling asleep with a sleeping mask blocking out the light. After what felt like a long nap I awake ready for the on board meal.. the time in Doha is 9.30pm.. KL.. 1.30am..The rest of the journey is filled with on/off sleep.
The travels begin.. |
After landing in KL, I pass through immigration.. collect my luggage and buy a express train ticket which will take me from KL Airport to KL Central in 30 minutes.
Will we have screens on the new cross rail trains...?

One stop from KL Central on the LRT line takes me to Pasar Seni (cost = 20p).
I arrive at my first hostel of my travels.. The Explorers Guesthouse and Hostel.
