Back to Airlie Beach ..continuing the journey down the coast... 1770/Agnes Water - Hervey Bay

Mon 27th Oct
I'm up early and head to the wifi area in order to catch up with friends/family in UK before their bed time due to the time difference. Around midday I meet up with Dan, ahead of us will be our last full day in each others company before Dan heads off on his Whitsunday trip on Tues morning and I head onto Agnes Water/1770. Hopefully we will cross paths again in Australia after spending some great time travelling down the coast together. We grab some lunch together and supplies for our last supper! I write some more of my blog up and then we head to the shops as I am now tempted to buy a GoPro to collect footage of my travels. We share a jug of beer and play a game of pool.. we are finally on a descent table with good cues so our standard improves substantially from the terrible games back in Mission Beach/Magnetic Island! In the evening we cook burgers on the BBQ and have a final drink together.

Tues 28th Oct
Today Dan heads off on his Whitsunday trip, we meet in the morning for a final goodbye. I spend the rest of the morning updating my blog and then head to the lagoon to chill out and meet up with Luke. Before my night bus I skype with Esther (my Dutch friend from Singapore-Darwin), our first attempt to catch up the previous night ended up in 10mins of laughter due to plenty of funny moments on our Kakadu Trip, this time we manage to converse! Soon I am boarding the greyhound bus and on route to my next destination Agnes Water/1770.

Weds 29th Oct

The overnight bus is freezing, I manage to sleep for a couple of hours before we stop for a break.. and then another 3hrs. On arrival to Agnes Water the sun is burning down upon me! I go to the shops with Jonathan (a German traveller also on the bus and same hostel), and then eat some breakfast. Later Jonathan heads to the beach to surf, I join him and chill out on the grass area nearby, listening to music and recovering from the long bus journey!

Thurs 30th Oct

Today Luke arrives from Airlie Beach, again it is another extremely hot and humid day. In the afternoon we head off to Scooteroo, an activity where you ride Harley Davidson styled scooters! After paying and then being given our leather jackets and helmets we put on fake tatoos.. unfortunately because we are the last two signing up they are about to clear up this section in order to send everyone onto the bikes and introductory talk.. we therefore only get to put a couple on, some people have them all over their bodies!

After choosing a bike we are briefed on the itinerary and safety etc. I am at the back of the three lines of bikes and therefore have to wait as one by one each person begins riding their bike around the practice track. The track is a narrow oval circuit with two sharp corners at each end.  I struggle to get used to riding around these corners where I end up riding into one of the guides!! After a bit of help.. which feels like an eternity, I am also set and ready to join all the bikes now lined up on the road adjacent to the main road.

We head off on a route down the long smooth roads, the corners we have to take are a lot easier and its great fun riding the bikes! We get some pictures on part of the route, then later, after seeing many wild kangaroos road side whilst riding, we stop for sometime to get some pictures as a group and with the bikes.. they are taken so that the bike looks a lot bigger!

Our final stop is 1770 (a small town with only 60 inhabitants) where we stop to watch the sunset and eat some tasty wedges. A fun afternoon and great activity.. the vibrations of the bike at the faster speeds end up making my hands shake when trying to drink a can of coke!! In the evening I head to a beach side BBQ with people from the hostel, including Anouk and Brit two friendly Dutch travellers.

Fri 31st Oct

Today I spend my day relaxing in the hostel, there is a comfy lounge area, I manage to get a load of my pictures backed up using the free wifi. Tonight is Halloween and a free BBQ at the hostel, we play drinking games at the hostel, eat and then get face painted.. I don't change and end up heading out as a Brazilian fan after the 7-1 semi final shocking defeat! We are then taken to another hostel in the area, via minibus, where there is a Halloween night.. the music is terrible but thankfully the goon helps to filter out most of it!

Sat 1st Nov

...Not the best of mornings.. but after heading to the supermarket the previous evening, before beginning the drinking, I have supplies for breakfast ready to eat. Luke heads off to his Castaway Trip, something I was also hoping to do but was booked up for another week so I declined the option of waiting around. I catch my bus to Hervey Bay where I've booked a couple nights stay.. as we pull away from Agnes Water I realise I have left my travel towel in the hostel! The journey to Harvey Bay is short and on arrival I take the local bus to the hostel. I am staying at Flashpackers, and after checking in I see Markus (German traveller from my Whitsunday trip) also at the hostel so we catch up.. whilst chatting a lady from the hostel comes over and hands me a travel towel someone had left behind a couple nights before after hearing me telling Markus! I also see a group of Dutch travellers that had been at my previous hostel as well. Markus has some more pics of the Whitsunday's that I didn't have yet.. ones of the group on the beach doing the pyramid!

Sun 1st Nov

In the morning I head to the beach, walk along it and have a sleep, another warm day but a nice breeze. In the afternoon I go to the shops but there is only the older GoPro White so I decide that I'll wait now till I get to Brisbane and hopefully get a deal/package including accessories etc when I buy one. Amazon on line in Australia has no deals! In the evening it is movie night (and free popcorn) we watch Snatch and I Skype back to friends back in UK.

Next stop will be Fraser Beach where I will depart from for my Fraser Island trip..
